Dancing “on Clave”
Back around 2003, I was taught to dance on the Clave.
My first reaction was to find it restrictive. It took me a while to realize that it was no less restrictive than dancing on 1-2-3, 5-6-7. And on the other hand, dancing on the clave introduces a syncopated rhythm to the basic step itself, which changes the essence of the partner-work connection.
Need help naming my new family member
First of all, thank you all for your warm birthday wishes ! I am moved and humbled that so many people send me such warm wishes. Thank you.
My little gift to myself this year is to adopt a second cat from the SPCA !
But I am a little short on ideas on how to name him… And I would welcome your suggestions.
How do I become a better DJ?
A number of years ago, while DJing at an international event, I received the following comments from a world-reknowned DJ: “You are playing the best music I have heard in this city.” While I accepted the compliment for what it was, I also felt that something was missing. In my mind, the best compliment a DJ can pay another was “you played a great set,” not “you played great music.”
In the absence of world-class tutelage, how could I teach myself to play better? How could I work on keeping improving my DJ skills?
